Changes & Challenges Program - Friday, March 23 and Saturday, March 24, 2012

Dear Sixth (Seventh) Grade Parents,

Our Lady of the Rosary Church and School, along with St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church and St. Mary's will be hosting a very special program for our 6th/7th grade students and you, their parents. Because this program provides a unique opportunity for you and your child to come together to hear about and talk about some important topics, we are strongly encouraging you to register for the Family Honor program, Changes & Challenges.

Since 1987,
Family Honor has been creating opportunities and providing tools for parents and children to learn to communicate effectively on important life issues, with a special focus on chastity and the truth and goodness of God‟s gift of sexuality.

Family Honor's Changes & Challenges program talks about understanding and appreciating human reproductive anatomy and physiology, the uniqueness of each person and the power we have to participate in the creation of a new life. All of Family Honor programs are grounded in Pope John Paul II's Theology of the Body.

We chose Family Honor to do a program here because they believe in parental empowerment. They believe parents are the first and best teachers of their children and want to serve parents by helping to build bridges of communication between you and your child.

Changes & Challenges, a two-part program, will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary in the Parish Center on Friday, March 23rd from 6:45 pm to 9:15 pm and on Saturday, March 24th from 9:00 am to 11:15 am. The first session will be for parents only. For the second session, you will bring your son or daughter with you. Babysitting will be provided with reservations. This is a unique opportunity for our 6th/7th graders and you, their parents, to “connect” and communicate about the beauty and wonder of growing up.

The Most Reverend Robert J. Baker, former Bishop of Charleston, South Carolina said in his 2005 Pastoral Letter, The Redemption of Our Bodies:

“I believe the Theology of the Body is the most profound explanation of human sexuality the Church has yet seen...Thanks to the Family Honor program, our diocese has had a number of encounters with this noble teaching and I would like to see this teaching take root among us in ways that enable us to overcome some of the wounds which confusion about human sexuality have visited upon all of western civilization.”
